Hydrogen – Element 1

The first element, hydrogen, forms the foundation of stars. It is the most abundant element in the universe and as a gas it is highly combustible.

Nitrogen – Element 7

Nitrogen is the most abundant element in the air we breathe. Approximately 78% of the Earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen.

It is essential to life and is a key building block of our DNA.

Oxygen – Element 14

The most important gas in the cycle of life, oxygen is essential to living organisms, being taken up by animals, which convert it to carbon dioxide; plants, in turn, utilize carbon dioxide as a source of carbon and return the oxygen to the atmosphere.

Fluorine – Element 9

Used as an agent to strengthen tooth enamel, flourine in its gaseous form is pungent and highly toxic when inhaled.

Chlorine – Element 17

A deadly gas that has been used as a weapon of war, chlorine is a poisonous gas that attacks the respiratory system, with death winging down on all those that breathe it.
